Athirapilly Falls

The Athirappilly Falls is situated 1000 ft above sea level on the Chalakudy River, at the avenue to the Sholayar ranges of the Western Ghats. This patch in Sholayar range is beautifully interweaved with lush green forest cover and sizzling silver cascades.

It is located in the center of Cochin and River Nila providing a treat for the eyes. A scenic combination of forests and little streams, Athirappalli houses the largest waterfalls in Kerala. Falling from a height of 80 feet, The Athirappilly Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in the state. This picturesque and majestic waterfall, Athirapally is the major attraction of tourists. The other places of interests are Swollen Chalakkudy River, Charpa, Vazhachal and Charpa.

Many endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna are found in the forests of the Athirapilly-Vazhachal area such as Cochin Forest Cane Turtle, the Lion-Tailed Macaque, The Great Indian Hornbill and the Nilgiri Langur.

This area is the only place in the Western Ghats which hosts four endangered Hornbill species. The Western Ghats is one of the most important biodiversity hot spot in the world

Vazhachal is just a drive from Athirampally. Adjacent to dense green forest, Vazhachal is another picturesque spot for the tourists.

Nearest railway station: The nearest railway station from Athirapalli is Thrissur & Chalakkudy, about 63km and 35 km respectively.

Nearest airport: The nearest airport is the Cochin International Airport, about 58 km from Thrissur.
