You are fortunate enough if your office is close to your residence. And if it is not so; commuting the distance of several kilometers not only spoils your mood but also it can substantially affect your physical health in a negative manner. As per the revelation of a survey report in the year 2010; every fourth Indian employee commutes a distance of more than 90 minutes. If you are one among them, the regular and long distance travel between your home and office can affect your fitness in following ways:

1. Blood Sugar

According to the research conducted by of the University School of Medicine, St Louis; the chances of increase in the blood sugar would be higher if you commute the distance of more than 16 kilometers.

Remedial Steps: In order to keep the blood sugar under control, it is necessary to do some physical exercises on daily basis. Also, the consumption of garlic, orange, and tomato etc can be quite beneficial.

2. Cholesterol

As per the report of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, the high amount of cholesterol has been seen in the people commuting the distance of more than 32 kilometers. It is a matter of grave concern, also for the reason, that the Cholesterol can be a cause of various heart diseases.

Remedial Steps: In order to keep the body weight under control, it is necessary to do some regular physical exercises. Also, consume more fruits and vegetables.

3. Depression and Anxiety

According to the report of the UK Office of National Statistics, the diseases related to depression, tension, and anxiety has been seen in the people commuting the distance of more than an hour. Such people are found to be less happy, and they have the enhanced feelings of dissatisfaction.

Remedial Steps: If you travel by train or bus, it is advisable to listen to the music while traveling. Also, the meditation and yoga can reduce the tension and anxiety.

4. Blood Pressure

Traveling or commuting through the heavy traffic compels the people to worry about being late, and this may cause to increase the blood pressure. As per the result of the research conducted by the University of Utah; the blood pressure increases by driving through in the heavy traffic. As per the revelation of another similar research; the greater the distance between the residence and the office, the higher the chances of increase in the blood pressure.

Remedial Steps: Try to remain tension-free. To avoid heavy traffic, you can reach the office before the office time. Try to avoid rush hours.

5. Obesity

While commuting a long distance, we normally sit in the same position, and the physical movement is almost negligible. This causes obesity, and consequently, the people lose the cardiovascular fitness, which means that they suffer from cardiovascular diseases.

Remedial Steps: Physical exercise is very necessary to maintain an ideal and healthy heart. Healthy diet is recommended to reduce obesity. Also, one should avoid taking heavy lunch in the offices.

6. Sleep

As per the Regus Work-Life Balance Index 2012, the people spending more than 45 minutes in commuting fail to get a good sleep, and they also feel exhausted. Later on, this habit of not getting a good sleep transforms into insomnia.

Remedial Steps: Perform the yoga that reduces fatigue and revitalizes you. If possible, take a nap while traveling by a bus or train. Try to reach home in time.

7. Waist Pain

Waist pain after a long journey is quite common; however, in case of the regular long distance journey, the waist pain can be quite dangerous, and it may turn into a chronic disease. Sitting constantly in the seat of the car for long hours in the same position, or sitting straight in the same posture and riding the bike for long hours can cause this problem.

Remedial Steps: If the commuting distance is quite long, you should take a halt somewhere in between your home and the office, and do some stretching so that your body gets some movements.
