Nandankanan – The castle of White Tigers
Amidst the natural beauty of natural forest adjacent to Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary, Nandankanan lies in the vicinity of Kanjia Lake. The castle of White Tigers – Nandan Kanan National Park is a unique kind of wildlife park of India. It is located 20 km from Bhubaneswar which is the capital city of Orissa state. Nandan Kanan national park offers lots of pleasure and enjoyment by offering an exotic kind of flora and fauna. The park houses India’s largest Tiger-safari, a reptile park, a botanical garden and a nocturnal animal park. Justifying its name, this park delineates the ecstatic beautiful of celestial garden.
Sprawling over an area of 4 sq km, the park is dominated by the Chandaka forests. This lush green zoological garden is hosting varieties of vegetation and flowers. The Regal White Tiger is the main attraction of tourists from all over the world. This rarest creature of the world resides here with full majesty. At present, about 34 white tigers reside in the park. Added to the white tiger, Nandan Kanan national park is home to more than 75 species of mammals and reptiles.
The frequently seen animals in the park are Asiatic lion, lion-tailed macaque, Indian crocodile’s nilgiri langur, mouse deer, rhesus, black buck, Indian pangolin, mouse deer, Himalayan black bear, macaque. Nandan Kanan national park has a lake and wonderful lush green bound, which is a virtual heaven for birds inviting native as well as migratory birds. This park is nesting around 75 bird species including some rare and endangered species of birds. Some of the popular birds that can be seen here include open billed stork, blue & yellow macaw, white peacock, green winged macaw and some more.
Nandankanan is the only zoo in India with the credit of having Eastern Rosella, Patas monkey and Open-billed Stork. Besides, it has the glory among the two zoos in India having Orang-Utan, Indian Pangolin, Spotted Munia and Burmese Python. It is among the three zoos of India having Cinereous Vulture, Nicobar Pigeon and Green-winge. White Tiger Safari is what exactly every tourist come for. The actual romance of the forest lies in spotting these white tigers. Tourists love to do the activities like photography and boat ride in the park. This unique park -cum-zoo offers a safe trip by using the bus service. The remotest part of the park can be visited by the bus trip which offers you the most excitement.
Bhubaneswar, the capital city is just 20 km and has all ranges of hotels ranging from heritage hotels to luxury and budget hotels. The Government owned hotels, yatri-nivas, guesthouses and lodges are also some options available.
