Nestled in the centre of Mayurbhanj, the northernmost district of Odisha ,Simlipal National park populary known as Simlipal is situated.

Simlipal derived its name from the silk cotton tree known locally as Simul that blooms vividly here. This less unexplored and unspoiled forest region offers the panoramic stunning views of the spectacular waterfalls, Jaranda and Barheipani attracts enthusiastic tourists.

The city, once hunting region of the bygone Maharaja’s of Marurbhanj, is considered with the largest wildlife sanctuary in India and also is one of the main tiger project centre in the country. The best time to visit Simlipal is from October to June. It remains open for public only between the periods of November 1 to July 15.

Located at a plateau at an altitude of 559.31 meters from sea level, Simlipal is sprawled on a wide expanse of Sal forest :enriched with thick dense forests, imposing meadows, stunning waterfalls and mind blowing rivers ,Simlipal offers the mesmerizing natural beauty and ideal location for forest camping. The lush green forests and the cool breeze emerging out from the woody forests makes this place a perfect location for forest camping. The mesmerizing beauty of the surrounding forests and valleys offer eye catching views for the enthusiastic travelers.

Home of the India’s biggest animal species –Tiger, Asian Elephant and Gaur, it is also one of the earliest and finest of India’s 15 Tiger reserves falling under Project Tiger.

Simlipal is endowed with exceptional biodiversity because of its notable topographic variation, assenting climate, and vital vegetation which support large varieties of animals, birds and reptiles to flourish. It is reachable from the places Calcutta and Bhubaneshwar, the nearest airports being at 250 and 300 kms respectively.

It is 76 kms away from Lulung and 115 kms from Jashipur. The nearest railhead is Balasore, served by major trains running on the South-Eastern sector. The two entry points to Simlipal are Pithabata 22 km from Baripada and Joshipur. You need to get the entry permits from the Range Officer, Pithabata check gate or the Assistant Conservator of forests on payment of prescribed fees.
