Tawang is world renowned for its 400 year old Buddhist Monastery, sits at a height of over 10000 feet, is one of the biggest in India also known as Galden Namgyal Lhatse. The Monastery was founded by the monk Mera Lama, a contemporary of the fifth Dalai Lama and a birth place of the sixth Dalai Lama. Tawang is endowed historically and naturally both.

The Tawang Monastery has an interesting collection of Thangkas (Tibetan painting on cloth) and a large festooned statue of Sakyamuni i.e. the historical Buddha. The Tawang Monastery, also known as the ‘Galden Namgyal Lhatse’, is beautifully situated about 2 km from the heart of the town.

Countless monasteries and nunneries; up teem lakes, waterfalls and hot water springs are enthralling pieces to attract tourists. The sight of the composed water of sensational lakes, rivers and of numerous high water falls reflecting the color of blue sky and sometimes fluttering clouds overhead gives a very heart touching astounding experience to the tourists. Tawang offers number of pieces of attraction. It is also famous for its craft and handicrafts. The woolen carpets are produced here by the local handicrafts attracts art lovers. There are beautiful lakes around Tawang, the most being Pankang Teng Tso Lake. It is 17 km away from annoying crowd of township.

Tawang Library is a repository of thousands of block-printed commentaries and treatises on the subject of Mahayana Buddhism. Another place to visit in Tawang is Bomdila which is 185 km from Tawang, which is also a major link between Tawnag and other parts of India.

Gorichen Peak and Ghesila range are the important peak of Tawang district attracts tourists and mountaineers. BongBong (Nuranang) Waterfall and BTK (Bap Teng Kang) Waterfall is the famous waterfall in Tawang.Seeing the tantalizing milky water falling from the height of about 100 meters is always the integral part of one’s tour itinenary. Apart from these places Sela pass and Tawang Memorial can also be visited.

In winter, Tawang is lavishly dressed with white snow that gives visitors an august sight to feed to their eyes.
